Loose Ends

The band was formed in 1980 by Jane Eugene, Steve Nichol and Carl McIntosh, Loose Ends were the first all black UK band to be signed to the Virgin label. They were originally called Loose End, and their debut was written by Chris and Eddie Amoo of the Real Thing. The group changed its name to Loose Ends in 1983, and signed with MCA in America in 1984.

Loose Ends were at the forefront of UK soul scene in mid-'80s. Their bid for authenticity saw the band recording their first albums in the U.S. with Philadelphia-based producer Nick Martinelli; a scheme which paid off with 1985's So Where Are You ?
Their major breakthrough came with the Top 20 singles 'Hangin' On A String (Contemplating)' and 'Magic Touch', and their second album 'So Where Are You?', featured backing vocals from American singer Joanna Gardner.

'Hangin' On A String also topped U.S. R&B charts; the first single by a UK group to do so. Subsequent singles and albums were not as successful, but they developed a busy sideline as songwriters and producers (Juliet Roberts, Five Star, Peter Royer, Cheryl Lynn and Lavine Hudson). The album 'The Real Chuckeeboo' featured the Leon Ware penned 'Easier Said Than Done'. Following the disbandment of the original line-up, McIntosh returned in 1990 with new members Linda Carriere and Sunay Suleyman, breaking into the Top 20 with 'Don't Be A Fool'.

Following this set Carl McIntosh moved into production work, producing several artists, notably Caron Wheeler.
