The Jacksons
The Jacksons began as a trio of brothers from Gary, Indiana, with just Jermaine, Tito and Jackie calling themselves 'The Jackson Family.' When brothers Michael and Marlon joined, the name was changed to the Jackson 5. The brothers sang together at talent shows and various performances throughout the mid-1960s, including a talent contest a the Apollo in Harlem which they won.
The Jackson 5 soon found themselves opening for such acts as the Emotions, the Temptations, the O'Jays, and Gladys Knight (who recommended them to Berry Gordy of Motown (which signed the brothers in 1969).
The group had to change their name to The Jacksons in 1976 when they left Motown for Epic records.
Jermaine went on to pursue a solo career and Michael, well we all know what happened....
